Absolutely it is okay. In fact that is how many bloggers have made big money. The key will be to drive lots of traffic to this blog.
Good luck!

It is most definitely okay to do so. As a matter a fact, it is probably wise to start off using this method because you pretty much get a free website and free hosting. Another major benefit is that it is easier to rank higher in the Search Engines when you first start off since the blog site you use will already have an established PR.
But, you also want to consider if you are going to get serious about starting an online business it is imperative that you get your own domain and web hosting. This makes you appear more trustworthy and legit.
An example is most people would feel more comfortable buying a camera from http://www.cameras.com versus a website named cameras.blogspot.com

If you are serious about online activity, I recommend create your real website to be able to attract your visitors’ trust. On the other hand, the most problem after creating your site or blog is getting traffic to your created website. This is solved by Free credits which are offered by some reputable Web Hosts that enable you to advertise your site with google and yahoo for free. So if you start a blog instead of a real site, you cann’t use this great gift to attract traffic for your site. Moreover, if you want to run an online business, it needs some spesific facilities which are not provided by blog hosts. So I recommend highly build your own website withe a real doamin.
After all, if you are willing to start a website I recommend purchase your domain and hosting together. In this way it is possible to get your domain for free. Some hosting services offer this gift today.
As an experienced webmaster I recommend BlueHost service which I’m sure it would work for you and fulfill all your requirements. They have a really great offer for hosting & I have used them for over 3 yrs now, and have never had a single problem with them.
They are a Multi-awarded Web Hosting which offer a Full-featured service only $6.95 a month. Their service is really perfect and uptime.
